What is a Shabbaton?
A Shabbaton is an extended Shabbat retreat weekend, from Friday through Sunday. Sinagoga Ner Tamid del Sud offers a Shabbat experience that is restful, celebratory, exciting, and joyful. We offer multiple options for prayer and celebration of Shabbat in a warm, accessible, and inviting environment. In order to create a welcoming experience for all participants, our group spaces are Shabbat-friendly and technology-free.
Where is the Shabbaton?
The Shabbaton will begin at the Savant Hotel in Lamezia Terme (Calabria) Italy, easily accessible by air or train.
What is the Shabbaton Program?
Friday evening – November 3 – 6:30 pm – Kabbalat Shabbat with candle lighting, Kiddush blessings, Shabbat songs followed by a Shabbat dinner.
Saturday morning – November 4 – Shacharit Torah service at Sinagoga Ner Tamid del Sud, Serrastretta (CZ). Bus will bring participants to the synagogue.
Saturday afternoon – November 4 – Shabbat lunch/pranzo followed by Torah study and bus return to the Savant Hotel
Saturday evening – November 4 – Havdalah at the Savant Hotel
Sunday Morning – November 5 – Shabbat Songs and Festival Melodies
All Jews Are Welcome
We are a deeply diverse and intentionally pluralistic community. Participants come to our Shabbaton from all of the major denominations of Judaism, or from none. Some participants are traditionally religious; others identify as secular or cultural; while others are exploring, or in the process of, conversion.
We also strive to create an environment where everyone is comfortable religiously and also able to grow and learn from each other and our Jewish experiences and identities. Many participants come from multi faith families. We welcome whatever flavor of Jewishness feels right for you!
COST: 150 USD or Euros per person or a donation of any amount.
Participants are responsible for hotel room costs (The Savant Hotel offers a special price). Shabbat meals, materials and bus transportation are covered by the Shabbaton fee.
