Synagogue Ner Tamid del Sud in Serrastretta
is the first active syangogue in Calabria since the Inquisition
destroyed Jewish life in the deep south of Italy. The community
is active and the synagogue is growing. In fact we had our first
Bar Mitzvah in Calabria, in the synagogue, in 500 years!
Currently Ner Tamid del Sud ("The Eternal Light of the
South") shares a Torah with Or Chadash, the progressive
congregation in Turin and the sacred scroll often travels by
plane and train to serve both groups.
